The Creation of "Shalom Rav"
Kol B'Seder's “Shalom Rav” melody was composed in Boston, at Jeff's Allston apartment in late 1973. It was first taught to youth group kids from NEFTY (New England Federation of Temple Youth) at Camp Jewell in Connecticut, in early 1974. In March, Jeff & Dan gave “Shalom Rav” its first public performance at Brandeis University Hillel. During the summer of 1974 it was recorded (at the Joseph Eisner Camp) for inclusion in the third LP volume of Songs NFTY Sings. The music was published for the first time in 1981 in a music folio called “Yehi Shir.” Since then it has been published and recorded countless times.
